Amitayus is a very important long life deity. His name is composed by two words Amita (boundless, unlimited) and Ayus (existence). He is described in the Buddhist scriptures as the Sambhogakaya manifestation of Amitabha and represents the values of merit, wisdom and longevity. This practice of the Mahayana tradition is meant to eliminate spiritual obstacles and remove the interferences to a long life.
